PAPUA NEW GUINEA  DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

The Birthing Mothers Project aims to reduce the number of women who (5) die in childbirth every day. This is achieved by the provision of bush huts that are culturally acceptable accommodation adjacent to remote health centres and “baby bundles” as an incentive to come to a supervised delivery.

Install a Buddy Bench at your school

Lake Currimundi-Kawana Lions Club (Q3) presented Kawana College Primary Campus with a Buddy Bench. The idea for this bench was first conceived in Canada and America where they are called Friendship Benches. Our Secretary suggested the idea as she had heard about this bench locally. It was decided to go ahead and hopefully present a Buddy Bench to a school every year. The seat is used if a child needs space to think, share friendship stories, ponder on what a happy day they are having or if a student is feeling lonely, to sit on until someone comes along to share the space with them.
